Supporting Neglected & Disadvantaged Children in Romania

blogOver the years we have come in contact with some very inspiring people. One of them is Ana-Maria, a social worker who works for the local authority in Gheorgheni/Romania. As a charity it is very good to work in partnership with social workers from local authorities because together we can have a stronger, more positive impact on the children we support. Ana-Maria is a special person because she has devoted herself to others in her social work for over 20 years.

geschenkWe had a wonderful Christmas party with the families from our Family Support Program in Gheorgheni. Altogether 52 children and their parents came. We wanted the party to be something special for the children, something that made them experience the beauty and love of Christmas.

blogLast summer we started to work with Ana, a mother of six children, struggling to survive in a deeply hopeless environment.

Ana and her children are among the poorest in their village. They are used to life on the margin of society, experiencing prejudice and rejection from fellow villagers simply because they are extremely poor. Ana needed help because her children lack the most basic necessities, such as food, clothing and a suitable place to live.

blogSince registering Open Hands as an NGO in Romania in August this year, we have been able to expand our Family Support Program. We are now regularly supporting an additional 22 children and their parents, all of whom live in extremely poor homes. This means that Open Hands is currently supporting a total of 49 children.
